Surgical and angiographic anatomy of the posterior communicating and anterior choroidal arteries

چکیده
The posterior communicating (PComA) and anterior choroidal arteries (AChA) are the two major branches of the supraclinoid internal carotid artery. Thorough knowledge of the anatomy and awareness of the variations and anomalies of these arteries are of clinical and scientific importance in dealing with lesions involving these arteries and their branches. This article briefly reviews surgical and angiographic anatomy of the PComA and AChA.

"Kissing aneurysms" of the internal carotid artery.
Five patients with kissing aneurysms (adherent internal carotid-posterior communicating artery and ipsilateral internal carotid-anterior choroidal artery aneurysms) are reported. There was female predominance and the subarachnoid hemorrhage was commonly due to rupture of the proximal posterior communicating artery aneurysm. Despite the demonstration of angiographic cleavage, the two aneurysms a...
متن کاملAnatomical Variations of Circle of Willis in 57 Human Brains
Purpose: The circle of willis is responsible for blood supply of brain, which may suffer from anatomical variations. These disturbances can lead to aneurysm or even arterial rupture. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anatomical structure of the cerebral arteries forming the circle of willis in adult cadavers. Also, cerebral versus non- cerebral versus non-cerebral arterial walls wer...
متن کاملAnterior choroidal artery: angiographic analysis of variations and anomalies.
In the first part of this investigation, 216 consecutive carotid angiograms from 108 patients were reviewed to analyze variations of the anterior choroidal artery (AChA) for the origin, size, and course of the stem and for the possible identification of the uncal branch, perforating branches, and plexal segment of the AChA. In the second part of our investigation, we analyzed anomalies of the A...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Here, we describe the clinical, angiographic characteristics, and long-term surgical outcome of hemorrhagic moyamoya disease in children. METHODS We retrospectively collected 374 consecutive children with moyamoya disease (hemorrhagic 30 and ischemic 344) between 2004 and 2012 in our hospital. The clinical and radiological characteristics of the hemorrhagic patients wer...
متن کاملThe origin and relations of the anterior choroidal artery: an anatomical study.
There has recently been an increase in surgical interventions to the inferior temporal lobe. The aim of the present study is to examine the anatomical structure and relations of the anterior choroidal artery, which extends to this region. A mixture of latex and ink was injected into the internal carotid and basilar arteries of 15 brains from fresh cadavers. In 18 out of 30 cases (60%) the anter...
